The Go Red For Women movement is the American Heart Association's national campaign to increase awareness of heart disease - the number one killer of women. The campaign encourages women and their families to take action and live a healthier life, and this year’s theme involved educating the community on the staggering fact that every 80 seconds, a woman dies of heart disease or stroke.

Most importantly, 100% of the funds raised through the Power Walk directly support Dress for Success's programs in Los Angeles.

Snell & Wilmer volunteers prepped and served breakfast to 150 homeless women in Downtown Los Angeles. The mission of the Downtown Women's Center is to provide permanent supportive housing and a safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability, and to advocate ending homelessness for women. Since 2013, Los Angeles has seen a 55 percent increase in the number of women experiencing homelessness, accounting for more than one third of the total homeless population. Despite this growing need for women-specific services, the Downtown Women's Center remains the only local organization dedicated exclusively to serving and empowering the women of Skid Row.

The 21st Annual Fresh Start Women’s Foundation Gala benefitted the life-enhancing programs and services offered at the Foundation. Since 1992, the Foundation has been on a mission to provide education, resources and support for women to positively transform their lives and strengthen our community. It envisions a community where every woman reaches her full potential through achieving personal empowerment and financial self-sufficiency. The Foundation provides a unique place in the community, a place where a woman—no matter her means, education or ability—can stabilize her life, develop a holistic, personalized plan of action, and achieve her goals. Fresh Start is completely privately funded and relies solely on contributions from individuals and companies. Snell & Wilmer partner Terry Roman serves as the Foundation’s executive board chair.

Girls Inc. of Orange County has been a respected member of the non-profit community for over 60 years. Its mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. It puts its mission to practice by equipping girls to navigate gender, economic and social barriers and grow into healthy, educated and independent adults. Each year, Girls Inc. of Orange County changes the lives of more than 5000 girls, ages four and a half to 18, by providing year-round holistic programming focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), financial literacy, sound body image, healthy relationships, and college and career readiness. The women attorneys of Snell & Wilmer hosted a private reception at the Heard Museum. This has become a popular annual event for the firm, providing attendees with a distinctive opportunity to spend time and exchange ideas with other businesswomen while showcasing prominent venues in Arizona. This year’s event also offered attendees special access to the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit.

The Junior League of Phoenix is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Snell & Wilmer partnered with the Latina Mentoring Project to bring together Latina attorneys and law students with judges for a well-attended networking reception. Keynote speaker Lisa Loo, president of the State Bar of Arizona Board of Governors, addressed the group about her experiences as a diverse attorney. She emphasized that inclusion is the cornerstone to diversity efforts and encouraged all attendees, but especially the students, to pursue their goals.
Snell & Wilmer was once again a proud sponsor of “A Toast to Positive Change” – the 40th anniversary gala for Mariposa. Mariposa has one of the only women’s focused substance abuse programs in Orange County and assists with legal, family and personal problems as a result of usage problems. Mariposa also offers a wide range of services from childhood abuse, domestic violence, depression, anxiety, loss of a loved one, anger management, difficulties with low self-esteem, communication problems or other life challenges. It offers individual, couples, family and group counseling in a caring and safe environment in multiple languages. Partner Jeff Singletary, who has been a member of the board of directors since January of 2011, and has served as board chair since July 2013, spoke at this year’s annual event.

The Las Vegas office of Snell & Wilmer hosted the Eighth Annual Second Chance Suit Soiree, a reception benefitting S.A.F.E. House (Stop Abuse in the Family Environment), collecting gently used professional apparel as well as accessories and toiletries for the charity. Over 900 clothing and accessory items were collected. Guests also assembled 30 backpacks, filled with comfort items, which will be given to children and teenagers when they arrive at S.A.F.E. House. The backpack items were donated by Snell & Wilmer attorneys and staff. More than 3,825 items have been donated during the past four years. S.A.F.E. House was established by a group of community leaders concerned about the needs of battered women and their children. The organization provides a comprehensive approach to working with families to Stop Abuse in the Family Environment.
