Biography
Richard Kim is the Managing Partner of Snell & Wilmer’s Washington, D.C. office. Richard represents companies on trademark prosecution, counseling, licensing, and litigation matters. He assists clients with all stages of securing U.S. trademark protection and coordinates the filing and prosecution of U.S. and international trademark applications.
Richard has extensive experience in managing large U.S. and global trademark portfolios in the consumer products, technology, scientific, food and beverage, health and entertainment fields, and working with clients in formulating U.S. and non-U.S. filing, protection and enforcement strategies.

- Serves as primary trademark outside counsel for a global biotechnology company, handling trademark clearance, brand development and management, prosecution of applications, oppositions, enforcement actions by and against third parties, domain name disputes and regulatory and transactional matters
- Serves as primary outside trademark counsel for a major international medical and healthcare technology company, providing support with respect to trademark clearance, selection and prosecution matters in addition to the company’s trademark enforcement, domain name enforcement and copyright matters
- Serves as outside worldwide trademark counsel for a famous resort and golf course operator, assisting with the selection of new trademarks, prosecution of applications, and enforcing trademarks against infringers
- Serves as outside worldwide trademark counsel for several brewery companies
- Serves as sole U.S. counsel to a global computer and audio technology company, filing and prosecuting U.S. applications and managing numerous trademark opposition and cancellation actions on behalf of the company
- Manages the worldwide trademark portfolio for a senior living company and advises the company regarding the expansion of its brand into new products and services and in connection with the selection of new brands
- Serves as outside worldwide trademark counsel for a food company, protecting and enforcing the trademark and distinctive trade dress in the United States and around the world
- Serves as outside worldwide trademark counsel for a global investment and advisory firm, evaluating, clearing, and prosecuting new trademarks, reviewing license agreements, and enforcing its trademark rights in the PTO and in federal court
