Biography

Emily Statham is an associate in the firm’s litigation, investigations, and trials practice group. In addition to assisting clients in resolving complex commercial disputes, Emily provides strategic advice to companies across industries on existing and emerging artificial intelligence, life sciences, data privacy, technology, and cybersecurity laws and regulations. She leverages her cross-disciplinary experience to help clients navigate complex litigation and regulatory compliance issues in high-impact matters both in and out of court.  From early-stage startups to global enterprises, clients turn to Emily for practical, business-oriented solutions that address legal risk while supporting innovation.

Litigation, Investigations, and Trials

Emily advises clients across industries in connection with their commercial litigation concerns.  Her practice includes representing businesses and individuals in federal and state courts, as well as in arbitration proceedings.  She has represented a variety of companies in cases involving breach of contract, mergers and acquisitions, products liability, and business torts.  In addition, Emily has experience conducting internal investigations and defending companies in investigations by state and federal agencies.

Artificial Intelligence

Emily regularly advises clients on the applicability and impact of federal and state AI legislation and policy proposals.  She guides companies through the full lifecycle of AI applications, from the earliest stages of development through implementation and beyond. Emily is adept at navigating the intersection of AI technologies across multiple legal domains, including ethics, research, privacy, and data governance.

Life Sciences

With a focus on medical technologies and digital health products, Emily helps established and emerging companies navigate a variety of federal and state regulatory, legislative, and compliance matters.  She has experience counseling companies whose products incorporate both artificial intelligence and machine learning, and she keeps a close eye on the evolving regulatory landscape in this space.

Data Privacy, Technology, and Cybersecurity

Emily advises international and U.S.-based companies with data privacy compliance, cybersecurity, and other issues related to technology and data asset management.  She has experience assisting companies with issues and drafting policies related to both the TCPA and the emerging patchwork of U.S. state privacy laws.
