Biography

Bill Ojile is a partner in the firm’s special litigation & compliance practice group. With over 30 years of experience advising, counseling, and trying cases on behalf of companies, he is trusted by senior management and boards of directors of companies of all sizes. Bill brings an experienced and measured perspective to sophisticated legal, regulatory, and business issues. Valued for his understanding of business complexities and his ability to bring forth creative solutions to complicated issues, Bill draws on his 15 years of experience as a general counsel to a publicly traded telecommunications carrier and multi-campus institution of higher education. His experience leading the regulatory, compliance, legislative and human resources functions for these companies allows him to thoroughly understand and respond to a broad range of clients’ business needs regardless of industry.

Bill has tried many cases and has made appellate arguments to federal and state courts, arbitrators, and administrative agencies across the country. These disputes have required Bill to oversee large teams and manage legal, administrative, public relations, and legislative issues, as well as formulate strategic direction, often simultaneously. Bill is adept at negotiating resolution of complex and multi-faceted legal and policy disputes. His extensive experiences working with companies operating in the higher education, telecommunications and energy sectors translate well to other regulated businesses facing similar issues. Bill also maintains a significant commercial litigation practice assisting insurance brokers, banks and companies facing all manner of business disputes.

Representative Experience

  • Representing a university, on a show cause order issued by an accrediting body through two successive appeals and two in-person presentations made to the accrediting body’s appeal board.
  • Represented insurance broker in arbitration in a claim by an insurance producer who claimed he owned his book of business and was entitled to a multi-million-dollar payment following a sale of the broker for which he worked.
  • Represented a specialty insurance broker and several employees in a federal court lawsuit brought by the employees’ former employer.
  • Represented a major wireless telecommunications carrier in a bench trial after a landlord sought to evict the wireless carrier from its premises and force the removal of a tower.
  • Served as both buyers and sellers’ counsel in sales of for-profit colleges, including counsel on regulatory and accreditation requirements and compliance issues.
  • Represented a multi-campus private school in a broad-ranging Illinois Consumer Protection Act lawsuit seeking tens of millions of dollars in damages filed by the Illinois Attorney General.
  • Represented the owner of a career college after the college closed abruptly. The plaintiffs filed suit for fraud alleging the college knowingly made false representations of student outcomes in its advertising.
  • Represented a for-profit university system in a four-day trial on a wage and hour claim under the Fair Labor Standards Act in U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
  • Assisted multiple colleges in analyzing school closure issues and assisting those colleges in responsibly closing.
  • Tried over 20 state regulatory proceedings, including several rate cases, on behalf of a Bell Operating Company before ten midwestern and western states’ public utilities commissions.
