Denver Marketing Manager

 

General:

 

Snell & Wilmer, one of the largest and most prestigious law firms in the western United States, seeks an experienced marketing professional. This full-time position will be based in Denver, Colorado. It will report directly to the Phoenix-based director of marketing, but will also have a reporting relationship to the administrative partners. The position will include some firmwide marketing responsibilities and occasional travel to other offices and events. 

 

  • Proactively identify and plan client seminars, attorney speaking engagements, special events and other marketing initiatives as required; where possible, facilitate introductions to firm attorneys at such events and manage the appropriate pre- and post-event follow-up activities for each of these initiatives. 
  • Draft, edit and distribute press releases and other firm news.
  • Research and identify current legal issues and topics and work with attorneys to develop and place articles in relevant publications and distribute newsletters and alerts to appropriate contacts.
  • Manage process for pitches and RFPs (i.e., research, content development, editing, assembly and delivery). 
  • Proactively approach and work with individual attorneys and practice groups to develop and execute marketing and business development plans.
  • Actively conduct prospect, client and market research.
  • Work with attorneys and practice groups to draft and edit award nominations and ranking submissions (i.e., Chambers, Best Lawyers, 40 Under 40, etc.).
  • Work with attorneys to secure sponsorship and marketing event approvals and ensure Snell & Wilmer receives and maximizes all contracted deliverables.
  • Provide marketing and business development coaching/training.
  • Plan, manage and execute Denver marketing and advertising plan that integrates and aligns with the firmwide marketing plan;
  • Proactively identify potential clients, business development and cross-selling opportunities and work with attorneys and practice groups to maximize those efforts.
  • Work with Phoenix marketing team to ensure firmwide marketing initiatives are integrated into Denver programs and initiatives.
  • Work with Phoenix marketing team to ensure the marketing and business development needs of Denver attorneys and practice groups are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide content editing/proofreading support for marketing department projects.
  • Manage special projects as assigned. 
  • Participate in weekly marketing department meetings

 

 

Specific Requirements:

 

  • College degree in marketing, communications or related field of study is required. Graduate degree helpful. 
  • Previous law firm experience or professional services and/or legal-related experience strongly preferred. 
  • Ability to make presentations and to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.  
  • Excellent writing, grammar, proofing and editing skills. 
  • Proven project management skills.  
  • Ability to deal professionally with all internal and external clients on all levels and develop strong professional relationships. 
  • Flexible work schedule and ability to travel and work before and after hours. 
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.

Intellectual Property Paralegal

Intellectual Property Paralegal – Patent and/or Trademark (Phoenix)

Snell & Wilmer is currently seeking a full time Paralegal to join its Intellectual Property practice in Phoenix, Arizona.  Qualified candidates will have at least 3 years of relevant experience with either U.S. and foreign patents, trademarks and/or copyrights, but having experience in all areas is a plus.  Position responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Patents – U.S.

  • Execute searches on U.S. and international patent databases re:  patent family information, ownership/inventor information and other data as needed.
  • Work with attorneys to prepare and file applications with the USPTO with regard to formality requirements, including electronic filing of all documents with the USPTO.
  • Monitor cases and prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements.
  • Monitor status and work with attorneys/clients re possible priority-based PCT and/or other foreign applications.
  • Work with attorneys to ensure timely responses to Office Actions, payment of issue fees, and submission of formal drawings.
  • Review granted patent documents to determine maintenance requirements and calculate term.

Patents – PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty)

  • Conform applications and drawings to PCT formatting requirements and prepare request forms, ensuring correct applicant, inventor, and priority information (if applicable).
  • Comply with other formalities (POA forms, formal drawings, etc.), and select the desired International Search Authority.
  • File all applications, drawings, and other documents electronically.
  • Receive input from attorneys regarding International Search Reports and relevancy of cited art, and discuss strategies with responsible attorneys regarding possible Article 19 and/or Article 34 amendments and ensure cited art is properly disclosed in corresponding national cases.
  • Monitor PCT timeline, ensuring timely filing of Demand and national/regional entry.
  • Work with attorneys and clients to evaluate findings set forth in International Preliminary Examination Reports and select countries for national/regional entry.
  • Assist with preparing cost estimates in connection with selection of countries for national/regional entry.

Foreign Patents (including national/regional entry from PCT cases) and Trademarks

  • Assist with preparing correspondence to foreign associates, ensuring transmission of all required documents, and work with foreign associates through compliance with local required filing formalities, including legalization of documents if necessary.
  • Monitor status to ensure timely filing of request for examination and dates for payment of requisite maintenance fees in patent cases.
  • Review granted patent documents to determine maintenance requirements and calculate term.
  • Work with attorneys and clients regarding validation procedure after grant of European patents.
  • Work with attorneys upon receipt of office actions issued by foreign offices to ensure proper instructions and timely responses in both patent and trademark cases.
  • Review Certificates of Registration to determine renewal dates and use requirements in trademark cases.

Trademarks – U.S.

  • Execute availability/preliminary screening searches on trademark databases, including available international databases.
  • Conduct on-line internet searching for possible conflicting domain names or other internet usage.
  • Work with attorneys and clients to determine correct mark, including design image, if any, and proper classification of goods or services.
  • Assist with preparing and filing trademark/service mark applications, either use-based or intent-to-use via electronic filing.
  • Monitor status and work with attorneys and clients regarding possible priority-based foreign applications.
  • Review office actions issued by the USPTO and assist with preparing draft responses.
  • Determine acceptability of specimens evidencing use and assist with preparing and filing Amendments to Allege Use or Statement of Use.
  • Review Certificates of Registration for accuracy and determine dates for evidence of continued use/incontestability and renewal.
  • Assist with preparing and filing Section 8 and 15 Affidavits and Renewal Applications.
  • Assist with preparing and filing Trademark and/or Trade Name Registration forms (State).

Copyright

  • Work with attorneys and clients to determine type of copyright work, correct authorship, and copyright claimant.
  • Complete electronic copyright registration forms, including Request for Special Handling, if appropriate.

Litigation Legal Secretary

  • Must be familiar with Arizona Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Experience with e-filing, including Turbo Court
  • FINRA experience is a plus, but not required

Practice Group Coordinator/ Manager

The Practice Group Coordinator/ Manager reports directly to and will provide support to the Director of Practice Group Administration in overseeing the daily operations of the firm’s practice groups across all offices. The Practice Group Coordinator/ Manager will work closely with the Practice Group leaders (PGLs) and will play an active role in supporting them in practice group management initiatives and programs.

The Practice Group Coordinator/ Manager will be a self-starter and strategic thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can work across all levels of firm management. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and attend PG meetings; assist with the development of the agendas and prepare meeting summaries
  • Assist assigned PGLs with creating and monitoring the practice groups’ financial targets for the year
  • Attend and coordinate the logistics of PG retreats; draft takeaways and follow up regarding same
  • Work with PGLs to track and monitor practice group initiatives
  • Review and analyze financial reports provided by the Accounting Department
  • Report regularly to assigned PGLs on key performance indicators and make recommendations for appropriate action to improve group financial performance
  • Work collaboratively with other administrative departments within the firm to implement and drive various PG initiatives
  • Work with the Accounting Department to produce ad hoc financial reports for PGLs
  • Assist PGLs with creating and monitoring the practice groups expense budget 
  • Work with PGLs to develop (if not already done), implement and update Knowledge Management portals in collaboration with IT
  • Provide other operational and administrative support as the role evolves
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Proven work experience as a Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Analyst or similar role
  • Hands-on experience with financial and statistical software
  • Expertise in MS Excel (creating spreadsheets and using advanced formulas)
  • Familiarity with finance databases, SQL, or SSRS is a plus
  • Up-to-date with accounting laws and regulations
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts
  • Demonstrable strategic thinking skills
  • Confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information
  • BS degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
