On July 29, 2009, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) delayed the compliance deadline of the Red Flags Rule from August 1, 2009 until November 1, 2009. The FTC's Red Flags Rule is a federal rule requiring certain businesses that extend credit to customers and maintain customer accounts to develop and implement identity theft prevention programs.
