Health Care Alert - PCORI Fees for Many Plan Sponsors Are Due July 31
July 01, 2013
by Denise L. Atwood and Eva N. Merz
As reported in our August 9, 2012 Navigating Health Care Reform Alert, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act (collectively, the “Affordable Care Act”), requires health insurance issuers and plan sponsors of certain group health plans to pay annual fees to fund the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (“PCORI Fees”). As a reminder, PCORI Fees for many plan sponsors are due July 31, 2013.
The final regulations issued by the Department of Treasury and Internal Revenue Service on December 6, 2012 generally adopted the provisions of the proposed regulations. For a summary of the requirements, including the clarifications made by the final regulations, read the full newsletter.
