According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of employed youths 16 to 24 years of age rose by 1.8 million to 18.6 million last year.  While the number of youths employed at any point during the year fluctuates, it typically peaks during the summertime.  With summer now just around the corner, employers may find themselves hiring youths and, if so, should be aware of the laws that govern the employment relationships with workers under the age of 18.
