Workplace Word®-June 2010
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act all prohibit discrimination in the workplace on the basis of certain protected classes, including an employee's race, gender, religion, national origin, age, disability, veteran status and genetic information. These laws traditionally impose liability on the basis of conduct on the part of management and supervisory personnel whose actions are motivated by discriminatory bias.
