Zaven devotes his practice to complex commercial litigation, privacy and data security, and critical motions and appeals.
Zaven has years of experience representing public and private companies in complex litigation matters at both the trial and appellate levels in various federal and state courts, with an emphasis on corporate business litigation, financial services litigation, and intellectual property and technology related litigation. In addition, Zaven is a member of the First Amendment practice group, and has significant experience advising and representing clients in First Amendment matters, including defamation, the Communication Decency Act, anti-SLAPP statutes and motions, and copyright infringement.
Zaven also advises clients in the area of privacy and cybersecurity and is a member of the firm’s Cybersecurity, Data Protection and Privacy practice group. He advises clients on all aspects of information risk management programs, vendor assessment and management, privacy and information security disclosures, cyber incident response planning, employee training and community awareness, privacy laws and practices, and information governance. In addition, he advises on cyber-related governmental investigations, regulatory compliance and enforcement matters, including Utah’s Information Technology Act and Protection of Personal Information Act, GDPR, FTC privacy rules and compliance, Gramm-Leach Bliley Act, COPPA, DPPA, FCRA, and cyber liability insurance. He is also the former 2020 Chair of the Cyberlaw Section of the Utah State Bar, and annually assists in organizing the iSymposium, which brings hundreds of cybersecurity specialists and in-house counsel together for a day-long event.
Finally, Zaven has a growing practice advising start-up tech companies related to their terms of service, privacy policy and practices, and licensing issues.
