Snell & Wilmer Partner Damon Ashcraft Appointed to Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers Leadership Position

PHOENIX – Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce that Partner Damon Ashcraft was appointed to the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) Generic Names Supporting Organization’s (GNSO) council, to represent the Intellectual Property Constituency. Established in 1998, ICANN serves to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet by coordinating and supporting unique identifiers across the world. Comprised of 21 members, the GNSO is a policy making body within ICANN that helps create and implement policy for generic top level domains.

Damon is active in ICANN’s Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) and served on its leadership team. The IPC elected Damon to serve as one of its two Councilors on the Generic Names Supporting Organization and he has assumed his position in Hamburg, Germany last week. He also previously served as Chair, Chair-Elect and Associate-Chair of ICANN’s Nominating Committee (NomCom) in 2018 and 2019. Aside from the Intellectual Property Constituency, Damon is also involved in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the International Trademark Association. 

In his legal practice, Damon concentrates in the field of intellectual property, and has experience with intellectual property audits, preparing patent and trademark applications, preparing intellectual property and software license agreements, and handling various intellectual property litigation matters including actions for patent infringement. Damon’s practice is also heavily related to Internet domain names and trademark practice, dealing with domestic and foreign trademark registration. He enforces and defends clients’ trademark rights before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and in various federal and state courts. He has previously represented trademark owners in hundreds of domain names, and currently manages numerous trademark portfolios.
