EVENT ALERT – Phoenix – Hydrology and the Law

May 11, 2015

As the national economy slowly improves, there is renewed interest in investing in land to develop residential and industrial projects across Arizona's landscape, but the key constraint on future growth is often the ability to secure physical and legal access to a water supply. Now is the time to review the complex and evolving issues involving the use and interaction of groundwater and surface water in Arizona. This program will focus on the technical and legal aspects of water rights and water supply issues and other common water issues affecting real estate transactions and municipal water development, with expert panelists from both disciplines.

In addition to providing an initial session on the basic hydrology of surface water, groundwater and subflow, the use of science to determine the legal relationship between these water supplies will be addressed. The seminar will feature two panels focused on the next generation of challenges facing municipal water providers in the state's Active Management Areas. It will also include a discussion of leading water quality issues including due diligence requirements and how impacted water supplies may be used to meet future water needs. This seminar provides in-depth legal and technical discussions on the major water quantity and quality issues in Arizona today, its potential impact on growth and development, and provide strategies for resolving water conflicts.
