Snell & Wilmer Represents Surgistar in Sale to Halma
SAN DIEGO – Snell & Wilmer represented San Diego-based Surgistar, Inc., a manufacturer of high-quality ophthalmic surgical instruments and devices, in its cross-border sale to Halma plc, a global group of life-saving technology companies. Surgistar will become part of Halma’s Healthcare Sector company, MicroSurgical Technology, Inc. (MST), further strengthening Halma’s ophthalmic capabilities and expanding MST’s product offering in cataract and other ophthalmic procedures.
Founded in California more than 20 years ago, Surgistar has built a strong reputation for producing reliable, high-performance instruments used in everyday ophthalmic procedures. The company’s differentiated product range complements MST’s existing portfolio, adding products used in routine cataract surgery while enhancing in-house manufacturing capabilities.
In a recent press release, Marc Ronchetti, Group Chief Executive of Halma, stated “Cataract and ophthalmic surgery are long term growth markets for Halma, supported by ageing populations and rising demand for eye procedures. Surgistar’s differentiated product range is highly complementary to MST’s, strengthening its position by adding products used in routine cataract surgery and expanding in house manufacturing capability. We are delighted to welcome Surgistar to MST and the Halma Group.”
Partner Bardia Moayedi led the Snell & Wilmer team advising Surgistar in the transaction. The diverse team included Sarah Hibbard, Monique Torres, Brett W. Johnson, P.C., T.
