New Mexico: Bernalillo County Proposes Paid Sick Time Ordinance

On May 14, 2019, the Bernalillo County Commission introduced a paid sick leave ordinance for Bernalillo County, New Mexico. Bernalillo County is the most populous county in New Mexico, covering Albuquerque. A copy of the ordinance is available here.

Among other things, the ordinance provides:

  • Employees to accrue sick time at a minimum of one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 56 hours per year;
  • Employers can cap usage at 56 paid sick time hours per year; and
  • Up to 56 hours of paid sick time can be carried over from one year to the next;

The proposed ordinance is expected to be voted on June 25, 2019.
