Opportunities for Public Involvement Regarding the Pinal County Active Management Area
We posted very recently about the public’s opportunity to shape water conservation policy in Arizona Active Management Areas (“AMAs”), but there are presently two other opportunities to develop Arizona water policy that the public can get involved in.
In the Pinal AMA, efforts are ongoing to address a shortfall of groundwater supplies that current models project could limit growth due to an inability of developers to demonstrate physical availability of a 100-year water supply in support of an application for a Certificate of Assured Water Supply. A series of public meetings occurred in late 2019 as part of the Arizona House Ad Hoc Committee on Groundwater Supply in Pinal County, which resulted in the creation of a local stakeholder group, known as the Pinal Groundwater Task Force, to identify potential solutions. The next full group meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Pinal County Board of Supervisors in Florence.
Governor Ducey’s Water Augmentation, Innovation and Conservation Council is continuing to examine ideas and opportunities to develop new water supplies and enhance existing water supplies for all of Arizona pursuant to Executive Order 2019-02. The next meeting is March 13, 2020.
