Training
Hand-in-hand with advancing your knowledge and understanding of the law through early experience, Snell & Wilmer provides extensive training to further your legal education. Our training programs cover a full range of practice areas and legal specialties. Each program has been carefully designed to help you explore your interests and discover your strengths.
Snell & Wilmer regularly sends new associates to high-level local and out-of-state conferences, including NITA (National Institute for Trial Advocacy). Snell & Wilmer attorneys attend local and out-of-state conferences to build their substantive skills and network with other attorneys in their fields. If an attorney is interested in a specific training, he or she must get approval from their practice group leader and then from a member of the executive committee. Approval is determined on a case-by-case basis. Factors for selection include cost, relevance of seminar topic to practice, and seniority of the requesting attorney.
In-house Training Seminars
At Snell & Wilmer, we provide our attorneys with a wide range of ongoing training opportunities to develop their legal skills and advance their understanding of specific areas of the law. Every year, we host a variety of training sessions in each of our offices, with the goal of meeting the needs of our attorneys and enhancing the legal expertise we offer our clients.
Our training programs span the entire spectrum of our practice, from litigation and transactional areas to estate and financial planning issues, from tax-related matters to contract and licensing topics. Recent training seminars have also addressed such specialized subjects as courting and networking with new clients, drafting construction documents, summary judgment motions, environmental due diligence and more.
For litigation associates, Litigation Training Series is held each year consisting of 15 sessions of litigation training units. This training is mandatory for first year litigation associates and open to all other first and second year attorneys. Each session is taught by firm partners and senior associates. The training sessions cover all aspects of litigating a case including; motion writing, discovery and depositions.
To take our legal training to an even higher level, Snell & Wilmer also offers special seminars that allow our attorneys to experience truly unique and dynamic learning opportunities. An example of one such program is
"The Trial of the OK Corral"
A Fall Orientation is held every fall for all new attorneys and laterals. Participants come to the Phoenix office. Our attorney development committee offers two days of training to new associates and laterals on topics such as firm culture, time management and what partners expect. A second Lateral Orientation is also held in the spring in conjunction with the Spring Retreat.
