Previous PageSteven S. Guy Partner

Steve Guy's practice and experience cover a wide spectrum of commercial, contract and tort litigation representing both individual and corporate plaintiffs and defendants, with many such matters involving claims in the multiple millions of dollars. While for over 25 years Steve's practice has been concentrated in insurance litigation, including representation of insurers and policyholders in complex coverage, declaratory judgment, and bad faith suits, he has also frequently represented both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury, property damage, as well as business tort and contract claims and disputes. Steve served as lead counsel for a major trucking company in an insurance bad faith lawsuit that resulted in a recovery in excess of $65 million. He was also lead counsel for a food processing company in an insurance bad faith lawsuit that resulted in a $10 million recovery. Other representative cases include representing an executive whistleblower who was wrongfully terminated resulting in a settlement of multiple millions of dollars; successfully defending substantial wage claims; representing plaintiffs in disability and health insurance claims resulting in recoveries in the millions of dollars. Steve's practice also includes defense of insurance brokers, accountants, and lawyers in professional liability matters and mediation and arbitration (as party-selected neutral) of litigated disputes.

Since 1983, Steve Guy’s practice and experience have covered a wide range of commercial, contract and tort litigation, representing both individual and corporate plaintiffs and defendants in matters frequently involving multi-million dollar claims. This breadth of experience and balanced blend of representation provide him with a neutral perspective on evaluating and handling cases.

Steve is frequently retained as a neutral mediator or arbitrator to help parties resolve a variety of disputes. While he often serves in a third-party neutral capacity in insurance-related lawsuits involving breach of contract, bad faith and/or broker malpractice claims, he also possesses the necessary depth of experience, knowledge and training to mediate and arbitrate a much wider variety of disputes. Steve completed a mediation skills program sponsored by the American Arbitration Association which included intensive training in conventional and advanced mediation and negotiation principles, tactics and skills, as well as specialized dispute resolution communication techniques. With his neutral perspective, formal mediation training and extensive litigation and mediation experience, Steve has the background to serve as a third-party neutral and to facilitate effective dispute resolution.
