Richard Katz represents U.S. and foreign importers and exporters with respect to U.S. government trade regulation, including the structuring of overseas sales transactions, Customs duties and compliance, federal agency regulation of imports, export licensing, penalties, and audits. He has represented clients in diverse industries, including consumer electronics, footwear, apparel, telecom, natural resources, logistics, and transportation. Typical clients include U.S. import and distribution companies, U.S. high tech exporters, foreign exporters, trade associations, and governmental entities.
International Representative Transactions
- Advised an Italian manufacturer of optical scanning devices in connection with U.S. Customs compliance for products assembled in China
- Assisted a multi-national vehicle component supplier with registration and compliance with the Department of State for various military programs
- Obtained a favorable ruling from U.S. Customs & Border Protection for a company operating maquiladora industrial parks in Mexico
- Advised companies importing products from Japan and China under various antidumping orders, including assistance with the refunds of duty deposits
- Represented a solar energy company with the import of foreign components and use of U.S. foreign trade zones
- Advised numerous U.S. companies concerning export controls and economic sanctions regulations under the Office of Foreign Assets Control
- Advised various U.S. import companies as to tariff classification and valuation matters
- Established export and import compliance programs for multi-national corporations
