James Henson's practice is concentrated in intellectual property. In this respect, he has experience preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications, conducting patent and trademark searches, and providing strategic advice and counseling to clients.

James' patent practice centers on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the electrical, computer, and software arts. Specifically, he has experience in the areas of power management and conservation, computer clock control, and synchronization of plural processors. James also has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to pharmaceutical packaging, casino gaming, and mechanical devices.

James was previously employed as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. There, he performed a variety of examining functions, including conducting prior art searches, applying references to claims, evaluating various claim constructions, and reviewing patent applications for compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

James also has experience in the area of water law. In this regard, he used his engineering background to understand and evaluate hydrogeological flow models and water assessment reports. As an attorney in this area, James gained experience drafting motions and pleadings in state and federal district courts.
