Colleen Schiman's practice is concentrated in commercial litigation, internal investigations, and state and local tax controversies. Her commercial litigation practice focuses in financial services litigation in both state and federal court, including defense of various contract and tort claims, loan modification and unlawful foreclosure claims, and Truth in Lending Act (TILA) and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) issues. In conjunction with her internal investigation work with publicly traded companies, Colleen has experience with issues related to electronic discovery, SEC and other regulatory inquiries, corporate governance, remediation and litigation preparation. As part of her state and local tax practice, Colleen advises clients on state, county and city tax requirements and implications; represents entities in administrative and judicial proceedings; and assists clients in achieving favorable settlements with state and local taxing authorities.
