Previous PageKory A. Langhofer Associate

Kory Langhofer’s practice is concentrated in commercial litigation and election law. As an election law attorney, he advises campaigns, political action committees (or “PACs”), and others on campaign finance laws, independent expenditures, ballot qualification, political reporting and disclosure obligations, initiative and referendum procedures, and the First Amendment rights of businesses and organizations. Kory serves as the Arizona Legal Counsel to Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign.

Kory also litigates business and political matters in state and federal courts. He successfully defended the Arizona State Senate Ethics Committee in a constitutional challenge filed by Senator Scott Bundgaard in 2011, and Kory was the lead investigator and prosecutor during the Senate Ethics Committee’s trial of Senator Bundgaard. Minutes before he was expected to give his testimony, Senator Bundgaard resigned from office, thereby avoiding cross-examination by Kory.

Immediately before joining the firm, Kory was an Assistant United States Attorney in Phoenix, where his practice focused on organized crime and drug trafficking organizations. He has spent hundreds of hours in federal court and before federal grand juries; “first chaired” three federal jury trials, all resulting in verdicts of guilt; successfully defended three appeals in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals; and directed proactive investigations involving money laundering, shell companies, cooperating defendants, and physical and electronic surveillance.

Before serving as a federal prosecutor, Kory practiced at a major Wall Street firm where he focused on securities, corporate transactions and white-collar investigations. As part of that practice, he advised foreign and domestic banking institutions on structured finance transactions each involving more than $50 million, registered and unregistered securities issuances worth more than $5 billion, credit default swaps, and the structure of a $150 million hedge fund investment.

Kory regularly serves as an expert commentator on the law for state and local media outlets.
